History and Ecology
The Schuler Farm holds a special place in conservation efforts due to its role in protecting the headwater springs and hydrology of the Orfordville branch stream. It encompasses several springs within a small headwater wetland. The land reveals limestone bedrock outcrops and shallow bedrock beneath mature bur oak savanna systems. Most of the land, apart from a few acres designated for horse paddocks and a small farm field, was previously used for agriculture and has since been restored to prairie and pollinator habitat.

Significant Habitat and Species
This property provides essential habitat for various noteworthy species. Grassland birds find a home in the prairie and pollinator habitat restoration areas, while birds associated with oak savannas and wetlands are also present. The oak savanna and other woodland areas are enriched with ground story wildflowers, including the showy orchid.

Recreational Opportunities
Although the property does not offer public recreation, it does feature private hiking trails, providing an opportunity for the landowners and their guests to explore its natural beauty.

Land Management & Restoration
Active restoration of prairies, savanna, wetland and arboretum with a primary focus on controlling invasive species.

Future Use
Schuler Farm will continue to serve as a site for conservation and restoration efforts. The focus will be on restoring and maintaining prairies, savannas, wetlands, and an arboretum. A primary emphasis will be on managing and controlling invasive species to preserve and enhance the ecological integrity of the land.
